LOS ANGELES – Governors Ball. It’s the only party where you can find bougie tater tots topped with caviar, and chocolate Oscars spray-painted gold right before your eyes.
It’s also where the A-listers, including host Jimmy Kimmel, head directly after the Academy Awards, just a few escalators up from the Dolby Theatre.
The official post-Oscars bash was rocking for hours before the stars flitted off to other studio celebrations around town. When we left, “Poor Things” actor Willem Dafoe was still gabbing with friends by the bar as “American Fiction” nominee Jeffrey Wright was posted up by the outdoor dessert table with his kids, Elijah and Juno.
Here's what else happened you missed at Sunday’s Governors Ball after-party:
Emma Stone keeps her cool while getting her Oscar engraved
Los Angeles’ hottest club was the Governors Ball's Oscars engraving station, where winners brought their statues to get personalized after the big show.
Robert Downey Jr. stood in line next to a radiant Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who was brought a glass of white wine as she waited. Cillian Murphy was joined by his wife, Yvonne McGuinness, and teenage sons, Malachy and Aran, who greeted well-wishers and looked on smiling as their dad’s inscription was etched.
And Emma Stone inspired pandemonium among photographers, who swarmed around her snapping pictures the moment she arrived at the station. But the now-two-time Oscar winner was largely unbothered: chatting cheerfully with the folks etching her statue, and joking around with her husband, Dave McCary, who laughed and lovingly held her in his arms.
Billie Eilish kicks off shoes, hangs with her parents at Governors Ball after-party
Billie Eilish’s second Oscar win for “Barbie" song "What Was I Made For?" was a family affair. At the Governors Ball, the pop star kicked off her shoes and walked around in white ankle-high socks as she and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, got their statues engraved. Billie dangled her black heels in her hands clasped behind her with her handbag.
Her mom, Maggie, stood by her side during the engraving, while father, Patrick, was in full dad mode filming the entire thing on his iPhone.
Then it was family picture time, except Finneas was schmoozing onstage. Billie calmly reached through a crowd of people and sweetly pulled her brother into the family photo.
Host Jimmy Kimmel basked in the post-Oscars glow
Host Kimmel and wife Molly McNearney, an Oscars producer, were a power couple mingling after the show. Kimmel had a long pow-wow with boss and Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger before speaking with other friends.
Kimmel was overheard discussing his hilarious Oscar moment during which he read former president Donald Trump's scathing social media reviews of his performance, written while the performance was still going on. It got a huge laugh from the Dolby Theatre crowd.
"That just fell onto our laps," Kimmel said, smiling.
Christopher Nolan celebrates 'Oppenheimer' with his family
With seven big wins for "Oppenheimer," including best picture and best director, Christopher Nolan had plenty to celebrate with producer wife Emma Thomas. The duo mostly spent time with three of their grown children, tucking into Wolfgang Puck's famed chicken pot pie at a private table. The sound of celebratory champagne cork popping was clearly audible.
Nearby, Steven Spielberg had a long conversation with "Nayad" star Jodie Foster.
Justine Triet touches up her makeup while waiting for her statue
No one was cooler than Team “Anatomy of a Fall” at the Governors Ball after-party. Fifteen-year-old Milo Machado-Graner was spotted cutting a rug to Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk,” while the internet’s favorite “hot lawyer,” Swann Arlaud, scarfed down some pizza as he wandered through the crowd.
Back at the engraving station, “Anatomy of a Fall” director Justine Triet was all smiles posing for photos with her husband, co-writer Arthur Harari. As they waited for their Oscars to be engraved, Triet whipped out her smartphone and put it into selfie mode, gracefully retouching her lipstick as cameras flashed. Later, she was spotted strolling through the party with champagne in hand.
Nobody leaves a party like Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky
At the end of the evening, Chris Hemsworth exited with his wife Elsa Pataky arm-in-arm. They looked like a couple leaving a date, floating through party-goers with smiles while looking into each other's eyes.
Then the fans spotted Hemsworth and asked for selfies. The "Thor" star and Oscar presenter agreed to every photo, as Pataky waited patiently nearby.
Selfie mission accomplished, the couple walked away from the Oscars hand-in-hand.
